New Mexico VA Health Care System
Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders Care Line
The Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Care Line, provides comprehensive medical, functional, rehabilitative and psychosocial services either directly or through consultation by staff from within the facility, SCI regional Spoke sites (smaller clinics that fall under SCI/D), VA Medical Centers and Community Based Outpatient Clinics in VISN 22, the University of New Mexico Hospital, or other referring local or regional hospitals.
The Spinal Cord Injury/Disorders Care Line is an integral part of the Department of Veterans Affairs, New Mexico VA Health Care System. An interdisciplinary team approach is employed to provide comprehensive health care to the SCI/D veteran. The primary care provider, social worker, psychologist, nursing staff, therapists, and other members of the interdisciplinary team interface with each person served and their family and/or care provider to develop individual health care goals in the inpatient and outpatient settings. Based on the needs of the person served, a team of professionals is assigned to each patient and interdisciplinary meetings take place at regular intervals to ensure effective delivery of comprehensive care. Interdisciplinary team members are also involved in patient, family and staff education activities.
