New Mexico VA Health Care System
Homeless Program Coordinator
The local Homeless Program Coordinator helps homeless Veterans and those at risk of becoming homeless. There are many reasons Veterans can become homeless, including poverty, lack of support from family or friends, substance use, or mental health challenges that may develop or worsen as a result of trauma they experience while serving.
The Homeless Coordinator conducts outreach, case management and provides referrals to benefits counselors. The Coordinator connects the Veteran to health care, housing assistance and the services available to support the Veteran to get back on his/her feet.
Veterans in need of assistance after hours when the Homeless Coordinator is unavailable should contact the National Call Center for Homeless Veterans (877-4AID-VET, or 877-424-3838), a toll-free hotline available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
